Voices of English – The English Club

Voices of English, the English Club of Ananda College, Chilaw, stands as one of the most well-established and dynamic student bodies within the school. Guided by a dedicated panel of teachers-in-charge and an active team of office bearers, the club brings together a vibrant membership of over 150 students who share a common passion for the English language. The club is committed to fostering English language development through a wide range of engaging and meaningful activities, including educational field trips, interactive workshops, movie sessions, and recreational events. These initiatives are thoughtfully designed to enhance students’ linguistic competence while nurturing creativity, confidence, and collaboration. At the same time, the club celebrates and integrates the rich cultural diversity of Chilaw, creating an inclusive environment where language learning is both authentic and enjoyable. Beyond language proficiency, Voices of English promotes global awareness and responsible citizenship by aligning its vision with internationally recognized values such as the Sustainable Development Goals. Through this approach, students are encouraged to think critically, act responsibly, and develop into globally minded individuals who are prepared to engage with the wider world. Furthermore, the club plays a pivotal role in mentoring and supporting its two affiliated bodies, the English Literary Association and the English Drama Guild, thereby extending its influence across multiple dimensions of English language and literary engagement within the school. Ultimately, Voices of English strives to shape Anandian students into confident, articulate, and responsible individuals, equipped with a strong command of English and the skills necessary to thrive in a global context.
